I see many people use the bamboo strainer and I found some at as Asian market. But it’s very smelly like wood smoke. I’ve tried soaking it and vinegar and baking soda and many other tricks. Does everyone’s else have one that smells smoky?

  1. It’s called 소쿠리 (sokuri) and I find it’s not too effective as a strainer. In Korea sokuri is always used more for drying and presentation, since plastic or metal strainer works better. Your specific sokuri looks like it wasn’t designed to be used as an effective strainer.

    The smell should be natural – but have you tried putting it out in the sun for a couple days and see if it gets rid of the smell?
