Example – i frequent my local sushi place a lot and get the below (fried chicken, sauce and rice) but i have zero idea on how to go about determining calories for it…

You could try eyeballing the weights of each of the ingredients and log them individually. You could Google the calorie counts of each type of sushi and estimate based on the serving size/weight. You could look it up the sushi types in your calorie tracker and guesstimate the closest calorie count.

I would suggest you make sure you’re logging the sauces too!

The sauce and fried chicken would really jack up the cals in that one. Looks awesome though!

I personally eyeball it with calories I can see (rice, meat, veggies, sauce, etc) and calories I can’t see (fats, which is usually the culprit) and round it to the higher end. It usually works just fine for me.

it looks like sushi? maybe find a similar roll on a calorie counting app and increase it by 100cal or so for the sauces. a california roll is usually around 300-400 and rainbow i think 400-500. i usually round up to avoid going terribly over

Does it not come with nutritional information on the label or is it just ingredients (I know some labels only have ingredients).

I went to a sushi restaurant this week and I logged per piece, as given on MFP – 46 calories per piece.

But none of the things I ate were covered in fat sauce. I would count it apart.

Look up generic replacements online then add 20-50% to be sure.
