Ok hear me out. Philadelphia area native for the first 30 years of my life, still well keen on the best stops when I travel back home (38 now, live on the west Coast currently). I just spent 10 days traveling around Slovenia for vacation (awesome country in all aspects of scenery, food, culture, friendliness!!!) and saw this advertised in a restaurant on our way to the Adriatic coast.
Of course I was skeptical but wanted to give it a try. I was actually impressed and it's better than most I've gotten in the Bay Area (ymmv). To start the roll had a brioche consistency but the inner part was put on the flat top to give some crisp and prevent any soggage. The meat was slab form but got good brown edges although if they chopped it a bit, it would have elevated it even further. The cheese was an ementhaler or similar neutral white melting cheese, which melded well with the steak juices. The REAL STAR was the semi carmelized onions that got incorporated with the meat. Very nice sweetness but still had a tiny slight crunch for texture.
Loved that I rolled the dice in a foreign country and wasn't disappointed. It's not Angelo's but damnit they put out something tasty!
