It feels like it’s been years that they’ve been green – the anticipation is killing me

LOL. I’ve been growing them for a lot of years and I’m right there with you. I put mine in the ground late this year because we got a lot of rain in the spring and my garden was too wet. To make it worse, I have Facebook memories popping up showing that I was already eating tomatoes this time last year.

Because of the pruning, the plant has less energy factories.

I “aggressively” pruned too. I seen the videos everywhere, i didn’t even realize that not pruning was an option lol. I understood that by pruning suckers I would be cutting my yield but it was to result into bigger and better quality fruit and overall healthier plant. I seen many people say that it was “rare” for a sucker for ever even form into flowers/tomato. I bought a few more tomatos plants off of the Clearance rack with intentions on keeping leafs off the soil and regular maintenance of getting rid of leaves that no longer served the plant well but no pruning out bunches of suckers and branches. Somebody in the comments said “learn how the plant grows” and that is so true because as a a first time gardener I was taking thing off that I didn’t even know enough about. My plants are about 2 months apart and what I have found so far is that almost always do the suckers end in blossoms/tomato. The plant itself seem to grow faster than the others too but that could be a a couple different variables. If I had to guess I would say my aggressive pruning cut my yield by 50%. Good learning experience though. I hope your tomato’s turn red real real soon!

Start adding 2% Epsom salts to your tomato water. Will speed up ripening process.

We took our heirlooms off the vine because they were doing the same thing, and put them in a wi dow that wouldn’t only the evening sun. Took 48 hours and they started to orange and eventually redden. Beautiful colors beautiful taste, most are being made into sauce as I type.
