Same experience. No flavor at all. All red but tastes more like hot water than anything. Hard pass.

    Why they added carrots/peppers?!

    Try this

    One serving.

    2dl soymilk
    1ts gochugaru (chili flakes)
    1ts brown sugar
    2ts gochujang (korean chili paste)
    2ts soysauce
    2ts sesam oil (pure)

Mix all the ingredients together and pour the mixture into a small frying pan. Add the tteokbokki and cook over medium heat. Stir occasionally. Serve with a boiled egg, green onion stalks, and sesame seeds on the side.

Would try using meat or anchovy broth as a base!

It was a bit too sweet for me, is that how they usually taste? I expected it to be savory-salty, maybe if I can make my own I’d make it suit to my taste, honestly I like the instant cup flavors better 🫣

…..such little did I know someone actually puts carrots in tteokbokki

The basic taste of tteokbokki comes from the main ingredients, which are rice cakes, chili powder or gochujang, and corn syrup. Other ingredients enhance the flavor. Corn syrup is recommended over sugar.

gotta write where you ate your tboki.. did you make it yourself? Buy from a Michelin star restaurant? You could’ve just ate ketchup water boiled tboki and say it was crap for all we know. Try some from an old Korean lady near your Korea town location.

EVERYONE has different recipe for tteokbokki, and they can taste differently drastically. From the look, it doesn’t look appetizing and watery. It hasn’t been simmered long enough. I bet the cook isn’t even Korean. Onions and carrots?? They can ruin the flavor. I can tell how they’ll taste just by looking at the picture.
