Does anyone have any favorite ways to use Purple Cherokees, maybe a favorite type of sandwich to add them to? Planning to get into the ripe one for today’s lunch 🤤.

And thank you to the peeps that told me to pick my Purple Cherokees once they started to blush – the one on the right was picked when it just started to turn pink and look at it 4 days later!

I’ve been eating BLTs, bacon, chicken and avocado club sandwiches, I add a slice to tuna sandwiches. I also make chicken pesto sandwiches. Spread pesto on some bread, add a slice of tomato and some basil, pop that in the oven for a bit to “roast” the tomato and add my chicken.

I’ve been making fancy tomato sandwiches. Toast your bread, mayo on both pieces. Tomato down, salt, pepper, a little olive oil, grate some parm on top. Follow that up with a generous layer of fresh basil, followed by a small handful of salt and vinegar potato chips. Smush down and cut in half.

Sourdough, cream cheese or mayo, thick slice of tomato, salt

Someone else suggested it, but it doesn’t get any better than caprese for me.

Mater sandwich on white bread with mayo, BLT if you’re fancy with lettuce and bacon and what not.

Thick sliced, with fresh mozzarella, drizzled in balsamic with tons of fresh basil on top 🤤

I’ve heard tomato pie is good too. But normally we just buy an obscene amount of bacon and eat nothing but BLTs til we are sick of them lol

Last night we sliced them thick. Salted both sides and set to drain in a colander while you mix up 1 cup Parmesan cheese 1cup mozzarella chopped garlic and basil and a tablespoon of grapeseed oil. Set up a baking sheet lay those slices down top with the cheese goodness and bake 400 for 10 broil for two/three. Yum. Yum. We used three huge tomatoes. Sooooo good
Now I’m trying to figure out where to add another bed for more tomatoes next year.
