On his passing I inherited my grandfathers recipes, of what he rarely wrote down. Many different liquors, like apricot Brandy, banana Brandy, limoncello family recipes from Italy. One that was missing was the ratafia recipe. There are only three parts that I do know of, and that is homemade dago red, normally made from concord grapes in the basement, and whatever the strongest grain neutral spirit was available, and cherries. I've seen it with hard cherries and maraschino cherries.

Im on my 6th try at this recipe and things don't taste the same. I've bought bottles of the cheapest, fruitiest, sweetest red wine to make up for the lack of homemade, and have been using 195 everclear but still doesn't taste the same. I do have grappa to try as well. This is the base recipe I've been experimenting from, if there is any assistance, throw it ny way please.
