If you could only eat one vegan sandwich for the rest of your existence, what would it be?
I’m honestly torn between an Italian and Reuben 😅 🥪

There’s this tiny little convenience store in Westerly, Rhode Island called Reales Grocery Grinders. The entire front of the store is a very basic, convenience stop. Way in the very back of it, is a grinder/sub deli.
This little store has been open for over 100 years. My wonderful, sweet great-grandparents (who spoke only French, but from what I’ve been told, were always treated like gold there at the store🥺) used to take my grandfather there, then my grandparents (when grandpa brought grandma back here from the UK after he married her over there during the war; she was a war bride) took their 6 children, including my mom.
Then eventually, I was taken there…all for their delicious grinders & fresh, homemade salads, like pasta salad, antipasto, red skin potato salad, etc.
Their bread is so soft. The lettuce is shredded to within an inch of its life. The vegetables are never soggy or old.
These grinders would be the only vegan sandwich (grinder) I’d eat, if I only had 1 option, for the rest of my life. I cannot say enough about Reales. Go check them out, if you happen to be in Westerly!

Spak Brothers Pizza in Pittsburgh PA makes a Cajun blackened tempeh hoagie that I make a special trip for every time I’m back home.

As long as everything is gluten free as well as vegan and not any form of pb&j, I’m open.

There’s a pastrami sandwich just like that at Grass Fed in Rochester, NY (vegan deli). It’s so delicious. Probably the sandwich I would choose. 😋

I know, something that looks like you really want not to be vegan. Lol 😂 If you’re vegan, I don’t understand the need to ape meat eating behavior. Now don’t get it twisted I’m not some vegan hater or carnivore. I eat a vegetarian diet. I just choose to eat other things instead of meat substitutes. Please chime in with why? Is this a fomo thing or something or do you just really miss eating a BLT ? No hate here, just curious.

Probably the TTLA that you can get made fresh in the Whole Foods deli. It’s a BLT with tempeh and avocado.
hands down it would be my wife’s Tofu Sandwich™ (we have yet to come up with a better name for it). it’s literally the best sandwich – particularly as a breakfast sandwich – that i’ve ever eaten.
thinly sliced tofu marinated in a mix of liquid smoke, veggie broth, smoked paprika, nutritional yeast, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and a little olive oil. open up a brioche bun and toast it in the pan with butter, then fry the tofu right next to it so the bun and tofu both get each other’s delicious sexy flavours all over each other. then she does some type of arcane food wizardry involving barbecue sauce, montreal steak spice, and a slice of daiya cheeze before shoving it all into the bun and smashing it together
it is literally heaven on earth and i pity every single person who will never get to eat it

Not a sandwich really, but the Earth Burger (big falafel patty burger with sweet potato waffle fries) from Hummus Republic is my favorite right now. I could have that every day and be happy, perfect blend of flavors, nice and filling and it’s the cheapest thing they have at $10, I appreciate that a lot.

Vegan Vibrations BBQ Smoked Jackfruit Sandwich in Plano, TX! It would’ve been Citizen Eatery’s (ATX) Tofu sandwich but they are sadly no more

I feel like good bread is a huge part in making good sandwiches. I always tell people that my favorite food is a good sandwich.
Good Italian bread really toasted well, grilled veggies, some fresh tomatoes, onions, and pickles, roasted red peppers, oil, and some salt and pepper. And oh maybe some pesto and sundried tomatoes too.
Sure you can add fake meat etc. but the ideal sandwich really is the combination of the crisp bread with the fillings and a ton of flavor.

So there was this local company Gabs Veg Table that made vegan sandwiches and sides. They were soooo good, but anyways she made this one sandwich called the Phony Bologna and that would be my choice.
This is the description:
“PHONY BOLOGNA House-made bologna slices, cheddar, romaine, pepperoni in, mustard, mayo, oil & vin, on Kingston Bread focaccia”
Sadly she’s decided to not do it anymore and I’ve moved states anyways, but I still dream of this sandwich.

Reubens for sure! My mother is German/Irish and made so many of these for us growing up. She veganized them recently (she is also vegan now) and it’s still *so. damn. good.*

I just (about 10min ago) ate a super similar-looking vegan Italian sandwich to your #1 photo. I got mine from Maciel’s on York in Los Angeles. Absolutely delicious! ☺️ I could definitely see myself eating it once a week if I wanted to.

I call it the badass sandwich. Fancy bread (sourdough, multigrain, rosemary…it has to come from the bakery section and be relatively fresh) lightly toasted, hummus, sprouts, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, stone ground mustard/honey mustard depending on the flavor of the hummus, seitan, chao creamy slices if I have them.

There’s a place called No Butcher in Vegas. I’d be happy with any of their sandwiches. I haven’t found anything I dislike from that place yet.
