    We Need Your Help!

We’ve noticed that recent changes in Reddit’s algorithms have made it harder for original content (OC) communities like ours to get the visibility we used to enjoy. This shift means that posts and comments aren’t getting the attention they deserve.

By voting on and commenting on posts, you’re not only helping others but also boosting the visibility of your own posts. Your engagement is crucial, not just for r/PelletGrills, but for all the wonderful niche communities like food, crafts, art, and culture that thrive on original content. Even a simple comment like “This would fit X sub” can make a big difference.

Together, we can support and uplift our entire community. Let’s keep the positive vibes and delicious smoked meat content flowing!

Ugh I was so sick when this happened tonight.. I’ve babied this thing (so I thought). I clean ash/fire pit and grease every 2-3 cooks. I guess there was some grease buildup that I didn’t see by the drip opening. I had just reverse seared a prime tri-tip (which turned out amazing), but towards the end of the sear I got a pretty massive fire going on the right side opposite of hopper. I was able to get it under control but by the time I did there was paint bubbling/chipping, etc on the inside and out. I won’t know the full damage until tomorrow b/c it was getting dark.

I realize this is an entry level smoker, but it’s been an absolute tank and never given me a single problem until I messed up.. Wondering if it’s worth salvaging w/ some high heat paint or other suggestions welcome, thanks!

Scrape and sand, prime and apply high heat paint.

I’m a total noob to cooking on a pellet grill, so wanted to ask: what exactly am I looking at? Is this just the finish/paint burning off due to the temperature being too high (because of grease fire)? And what’s the consequence of this, will it rust because of no pain in that spot?

You’re fine – at the end of the day this is a hunk of metal and it can handle being on fire for a bit. This is a good opportunity for a deep clean; scour the inside and get all that burnt paint off too. Then you can reapply the paint to the exterior.

The only thing you need to be aware of is that there are some sensitive electronics in that grill. They’re resistant to temperature by design, but fires can sometimes screw things up. You probably want to do some temp tests to make sure everything is still calibrated okay – but the fire seems like it was away from the temp probe anyway so you should be fine

Had the same model when I started .. a workhorse for aure. Scrappe and paint.. spend the 20-25 it will cost in materials and you will have a long future with it.

I sanded mine down and repainted with high heat paint. Can’t even tell now. Inside is good, so I was like what the hell.
