  1. Somehow I seem to be in on trends unknowingly. About a year ago, I got on a kick of buying smoked salmon tins from Walmart as a snack with sourdough baguette slices. I go through about one or two a week. I didn't know "tinned fish" was a current thing. The reason I know of "tinned fish" is not current trends. My parents used to buy tinned smoked oysters and smoked trout back in the 1970s for hors d'oerves at cocktail parties. They also use to make sardine sandwiches with chopped onions and chilies. So I've always seen tinned fish as a snack item. I wish these guys had delved more into WHY this is currently a trend.

  2. White chocolate is not chocolate. It's sweetened cocoa butter with milk. It has no real coco flavor.

  4. so weird to see foreigners talking about tinned fish as if it was a luxury
    its a cheap meal in a tin. tuna/octopus/sardines/mackerel/anchovies in some olive oil/garlic/tomato paste/oil + chili peppers

  5. From across the country, Californias are so psychotic. When I was young I like pickled herring. I'd take it to school and gloried in the fishy stink that turned up the noses around me.

  7. Les from Cedar Rapids here… I LOVE fruit! There are in fact 5 different kinds in my house as I type this, including a 10 lb bag of plums from my friend's tree. Mmm, plums. Ok thanks bye!

  9. As a NorCal descendant of Finn fishermen, and having been raised on tinned fish of the old school, this came across as the most LA bougie episode ever.
    $12 for a tin because it has a pretty wrapper?
    $35 a tin because someone else opened it for you?
    The ghosts of my ancestors would murder me in my sleep.
    I feel a compulsion now to go hoover down a can of King Oscar Tiny Tots

  10. I grew up with canned smoked oysters, my parent's would often serve them on cheese pizza and that is delightful! I also would just eat them on their own or with buttered toast, or as an adult i would add them to a shark coochie board

  11. I think it’s a net-positive to have more people eating small fish but I just can’t get with paying a premium for them no matter how they’re preserved. I just need an easy and affordable fatty fish for my diet, man.

  13. Asian tinned fish is totally slept on. There's one with fried fish and black beans that is not just amazing straight over rice, but is often used as an ingredient as well. I dare not speak it's name to preserve its sanctity in the Asian community, but if you know, you know lol.

    I keep emergency meals at work, and always have canned salmon on hand to add to my ochazuke kit.

  14. Yes tomales bay oyster farm there back then when you got bbq by the water. I so miss that! So many people so yummy and fresh 🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪

  15. I switched to tinned Sardines and Makeral couple years back from fresh smoked/salmon

    Had to after developing a sudden allergy to the salmon (where the body mistakes the protiens for the similar ones in various pollen and then reacts similar to hayfever (but with even more itchy throat/ears action plus hives)

    Sucked because salmon was my favourite fish to eat till that point!

  16. The best tinned fish I ever had came from a basket one of my mom's friends sent her from British Columbia (here in Canada), it was salmon that had been smoked and then canned instead of thinly sliced. Unbelievably good.
