    Yep, if it burns clean without a bunch of nasty smelling smoke, you’re probably fine.  Watch out for unknown wood or softwoods that are full of resins that evaporate/crack instead of burning clean.

    We did the same once, but we didn’t have fire wood so we collected whatever small twigs and leaves we could find. Hint… very few. Surprised we didn’t get e coli that night.

    The trick is to still burn enough wood down to make a pile of coals to grill on. It’s hard to grill cleanly over a few flaming sticks. Works nice for smores for the kids too

    arent u suppose to cook the corn in the husk or wrap in aluminum foil?

    In my country good firewood is the standard and charcoal is considered cheating. In part because of the social element of gathering around a nice fire.
