1st visit, was deciding between the “muffuletta” (not really a trad muff, but nonetheless…) and the “grinder”, went with the muff as I’m want to do and the kind lady at the counter raved about its tapenade, and if there’s anyone who likes a tapenade, it might be me. A few thoughts…
a) the “large” isn’t quite as big as I’ve seen people describing it. Yes it’s large, I ate it for my breakfast / lunch, had a light dinner and didn’t feel like I over ate for the day…you could definitely share it though, half a large will power you through for lunch if you have a little in you…
b) the bread. Most unique “Dutch crunch” I’ve had. It was perfect. Had a layered / croissant like texture that was awesome. Still super crunchy but also plenty “buttery”. Hard to describe but a cross between Dutch crunch / ciabatta / and 5% croissant. Really excellent bread.
c) I tried all the ingredients individually, the mortadella was great and the cheese was quality and flavorful. Had a real cheese funk (in the best way) that you don’t get from bland cheese thrown on 95% of sandwiches. The tapenade was excellent as I was told.
d) overall excellent sandwich, it’s a level above Bay Cities just for reference. Different ballgame for sure but don’t know who else to compare to. I’d take BH over BC any day but let’s see how they look in 6-12 months
e) definitely on the expensive side since the large didn’t seem as big as I had expected ($25) but for me I eat a sandwich like this 3-5x a year so price isn’t the end all be all, it’s not an everyday sandwich from a health or wallet perspective.
f) overall an awesome experience especially after my last hype sandwich experience a couple months ago at Ghost. That was a disaster from start to finish. BH blows them away by orders of magnitude.
g) picture does it zero justice, I’m not a photographer. It was perfect.
