I'm looking at a used 3-4 yr old woodwind 24 (not pro). I'd like to try out the pellet grilling for a while before spending big bucks on a new one! I'm used to seeing other brands really ugly inside, but I didn't expect a woodwind to do that. If everything still works well, is this condition still ok for a camp chef?

    Options…
Cover the deflector with tin foil.
Buy a new one for $75.
    Do nothing.
    All great options.

It’s fine. The heat deflector in particular just needs to exist. until it starts to show rust holes it’s probably fine.

  3. My deflector rusts no matter what. After the second one I just keep it covered with foil. The cover over the fire box is also rusty. I bought mine new and use it all the time. I’d cover the deflector with foil and make sure the grates are clean and if everything works I’d get it if the price was good.

Not rusty enough to be a concern. Might need some TLC on the inside of the hood and a new deflector down the line, but I’d smoke on it as is if that was the only option.

So long as the grates aren’t rusty, it’s what your food contacts, then you’re good.

Yep, mine is a rust bucket but still pumping out trophies

  7. I cover my drip tray in foil, though the vented tray that CC uses kinda limits the effectiveness. Other that that, totally fine.

If you’re feeling frisky, you can hit the rust with a grinder, clean it up then slap on some high-smoke oil like canola or avocado as a protectant…but really, the rust is fine.
