Unfortunately the pandemic and current economy has claimed another victim in Chef Timothy Hollingsworth’s Otium. According to the staff, their lease renewal came up after 10 years next to the Broad and they opted to close the current location.
My wife and I decided to dine there one last time last week and are sad to see this place go!
Dishes in order:
Naan w/ chicken liver mousse. Always gotta start with it. Such a fluffy yet crispy and tasty naan. Pairs so well with a good liver mousse.
Tomato tart. Super refreshing. There’s a curry onion jam under it that adds a nice savory element paired with that jammy sweetness. Plus the crispy tart bottom adds good texture.
Summer corn agnolotti. Favorite dish and has been for the last couple times we’ve gone. Tastes like a buttery elote in a wonderful pasta pocket.
Snake River farms Skirt Steak. Now I don’t usually order steak in restaurants cuz I can sear up a mean one myself. But damn this was tasty and super tender. It was paired with these little butter soaked mushrooms that tasted amazing together.
Pork chops. Very well seasoned and cooked. Practically melted in your mouth especially when you got the fattier pieces. Paired with a little spatzel that was pretty tasty too.
Black sesame mousse w/ a white chocolate shell and cherries. A nice refreshing way to end the meal. It kinda had the consistency of a Reece’s cup with the taste of black sesame.
Not pictured: Spinach Bucatini. Had a nice runny egg yolk in the center and tasted similar to a really rich and savory clam chowder with the bacon and clams in it. So good.
All in all we’ll definitely miss this place. The wife and I first started coming after he won the Final Table on Netflix. We’ve celebrated milestones here and gone through different stages of our relationship so it’s sad to see them go. They’re open till September 8th so get in while you can!

My wife and I are going for our last meal there tomorrow. Been going there for like 8 years so sad to see it go. I hope he opens up another one cause the food is always great. I have only had one dud dish and still glad I tried it (foie gras funnel cake, was weird lol)
Is the last day Sept 8 or the 7th
Otium just hasn’t been the same since >!Taravangian used Nightblood to kill Rayse and claim the Shard!<
Oh no didn’t know they were closing. The naan will always be my favorite.
So sad to see all these iconic restaurants closing
Omg this looks sooo good!!! I’m having dinner there later tonight 🤤
Went this past Saturday one last time. Definitely has some bangers on the menu, but I do feel that overall it wasn’t great value given the portion sizes for some of the menu items.
It looks like they closed reservations (I tried making a resy 2 weeks ago.) Did you just show up and wait for a table?
Has there been any announcements on what will take its place?
We were there Sunday night. We had the mousse, skirt steak, gnocchi, bucatini, and cauliflower. Everything was great except the cauliflower, which was meh (Checker Hall is the best, iIMHO). The drinks were also a bit off as the main bartender wasn’t there, and they could only do the menu cocktails. Nice spot, I’m sure something else will snap up the space pretty quickly.
So sad
I tried to go there for lunch this week — they say they stop lunch service at 2pm but were closed (ie prepping for dinner) by 1:15pm

So sad they’re closing. Such a great spot. I loved their gnocchi dish.
Wow, so bummed to hear this.
Ahhh man I’ve always wanted to do a date night there. C’est la vie. So many LA bucket list restaurants gone before I got to them.
