I really like cherry pie and this recipe could not be easier to make. As an added bonus I will share with you my recipe and technique on how to make a homemade pie crust. Once you make pie crusts from scratch you will never buy another commercial pie crust. Leave me a comment on how your pie turned out I would love to hear from you.

Pie Crust Ingredients:

1 1/4 (150 grams) All Purpose Flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (59 ml) water
1 stick or 8 tablespoons (113 grams) unsalted butter

Pie Filling Ingredients:

6 cups of cherries (2 1/4 pounds or roughly 1 kilogram)
5 tablespoons corn starch (corn flour depending on your location)
3/4 cup sugar (150 grams)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
zest of one lemon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons butter cubed

Egg Wash

1 egg
1 tablespoon milk

Turbinado Sugar for the topping or any crystal sugar you like.

Bake 425 Fahrenheit or 205 Celsius for 20 minutes
Turn down the heat to 350 Fahrenheit or 175 celsius for 30-45 minutes. Mine today took 45 minutes.
