I like this idea a lot. I’m opening a shop this fall so still working on pulling shots on our temporary machine at home. I’m pulling Dogwood Neon this morning, 19 in, 40 out, 25-30 seconds.

19.8 in 39.6 out 27 secs. Walnut, Molasses, Chocolate, medium body, slightly sweet, middle of the road bitter, lower acidity.

I know you may have directed your question to professional baristas but as a self-proclaimed home barista I just pulled my first shot that didn’t taste terrible 🙂 Usually I use a moka pot but I got a good + cheap espresso “maker” to ease myself into the whole thing

Would love to be at a shop that was more like this, when i got hired i finally learned how to use a manual machine and dial in just for the owner to replace it with a super automatic 😔

Interesting to see the timings. I tend to target 18 in, 36 out in 26-28 sec for my home espresso shots. Maybe should experiment a bit with some faster shots for comparison.

There’s no way a 20 second shot of decaf is near drinkable. Are you timing when you start the shot or when you see coffee coming out the portafilter? Or other???

Place I work has a house blend that’s like this “Kickstarter” in terms of flavor notes. I have to dial 20g in, 50g out. Anything under 34 seconds doesn’t taste good. Contact time has helped bring out the fruitier notes. Why such fast shot times?
