I was water bathing some hot pepper relish and I heard this ‘foomph’ sound. Looked in the pot and found this jar floating at the top and the water full of pepper pieces. Never seen a jar blow out like that.

I had pot roast do that last week

  3. Whenever this has happened to me, it seems to be temperature shock from not heating up my jars enough beforehand. It sucks.

Ouch. That stinks. I dropped one loading the dishwasher this morning, and it hit the jars already loaded and smashed. Not a great way to kick off an all-day canning plan. Got back on track, though, and the second batch is in the water bath now.

I’d keep that as a drinking glass forever and I’ll pay shipping if you are gonna toss it! It’s a good reminder

Sometimes I jar I’m reusing will have been man handled and damaged, but not visually. A micro crack, and that’s the one that does it.
