As much as I’m a fan of ‘Fresca’, I just can’t do lineups. The rush at Fresca can be crazy, even when going off peak hours. If I’m in the mood for a ‘Fresca’ slice and see a chaotic lineup out the door, I walk 5 minutes south on Augusta to “Pizzeria da Mario’ in Kensington market. It’s definitely an acceptable substitute.

The pepperoni slice is great. A massive $5 slice with a thin crust, and a great ratio of sauce, cheese and toppings. The pepperoni they use is really unique and packs a lot of flavour. They have a few seats indoors and outdoors which is an added bonus. The family that runs this joint are always kind and super friendly, which is a double bonus.

Is it as good as Fresca ? Nah, Fresca is in their own league. It is however a good alternative, and easily the second best option in the area. Definitely worth checking this place out, if you haven’t already.

  1. It looks like it’s been sitting in the sun all summer

  2. You must be an extremely fast walker lol

Most of us would get a slice waiting at fresca in less time than walking to the pizzeria and back, even with a line

  3. one of the few reliable slices ive had in Toronto, don’t know why here in Canada we default towards overly bready pizza.

Eh. I’d rather wait for Fresca tbh. But PDM isn’t too bad.

They used to be a lot better with the original ownership, but unfortunately they moved back to Albania and the new owners ruined their once amazing product

  6. Missing the fresh garlic oil from Fresca. An appetite is a horrible thing to waste. Only three a day if you are fortunate.

  7. Nope. As a local you should take 45 seconds to walk over to Cosmic pizza & donair for a slice. It’s surprisingly great.

Although the slice doesn’t LOOK that good, I’ve been 2 or 3 times and this place SLAPS. Especially after a few beers in the market – it’s open late. Highly recommended.

a 4.7 with 480 reviews on Google Maps is nothing to sneeze at BUT that picture doesn’t make their pizza look worthy of the 4.7 Pizzeria da Mario has apparently earned

  10. Had it on a random day, and while it wasnt bad, a slice was around $7 something which left a sour note. In their defense they are probably paying a pretty penny to be in kensington but still.

It looks good but I’m definately a north of Brooklyn fan!

Man, we are all about the aesthetics! I get it, but a lot of food just doesn’t photograph well and wasn’t made to pop on social media

Probably would pick Frank Ranali’s over Pizzeria Da Mario. Love their eggplant chili crisp pizza.

Honestly looks kinda greasy. But overall flavour is what matters, so I’ll have to give it a try. Even bad pizza is good pizza.

I was going to ask when does Fresca ever have a line that long, but then remembered students are back at UofT.

I really enjoyed my Sicilian-style olive and mushroom slice from Gigi on Harbord last night, which is around an 8 minute walk northwest of Fresca.

  17. Outlier here. Fresca doesn’t do it for me. Would opt for pizzeria da Mario.

I have to say I love Fresca and I wait or call ahead to order a whole pizza. I dream about Fresca!
