Hi!

This is my first time making macarons and I need a little bit of help. As I baked them some shells (most) cracked on top but two came out perfect. All the shells have feet and are full and are delicious, I just dont’t know why they are cracks?

Note:
– I have no idea if my oven is on the absolutely correct temperature as it is very old and I’m just winging most of the things I bake
– before baking I left them to dry for about an hour
– I baked them at 130-140*C for 17 mins
– Before piping the batter had the right consistency (ribbons and figure 8)

Thank you for your tips!

Before you try any tips people give you here, you need to get an oven thermometer and re-try this recipe. My oven runs 10-15 degrees cooler than displayed and definitely impacts bakes if I forget to factor that in.

I bake at 150°C for 15 mins and use aluminum foil to cover the bottom rack in my oven to more evenly distribute the heat. Cracks can mean the oven is too hot, I definitely recommend an oven thermometer.
You are off to a great start! Good luck!!
