I should have listen to the last post 17 days ago. But i had places to go in highland park that warrant a visit. Holy f!ck this place is below mid. Chorizo super salty af, asada barely have flavor. Surprisingly potato barely cook is better than the two. Iono how this place is over hyped or have michelin mention Gorman. I’ve only been to like less than 10 taco places in la but this place doesn’t deserve the 4.5 stars in google/yelp or anything

Eh I think it’s pretty good lol Maybe not worth a 30-40 minute wait in line though

To each their own I guess, I thought the flavors meshed very well. The bite did feel really homogenous though, I missed the textures that usually come with a street style taco.

  3. It’s good but not deserving of its stellar reputation and very overpriced. I think blue tortilla = hype

    Angel’s Tacos – Various

    TJ Tacos – Escondido

    Tacos Los Cholos – Anaheim

    Brothers Cousins – LA

These places all smoke Villas Tacos.

I agree, tried them a year ago and was super disappointed too

No cheese crust there right.. might be why

How can someone claim something is “below-mid” despite the tons of people who clearly and obviously like it?

I am not saying they’re the “best” but they are definitely really tasty and satisfying.

You didn’t even get the quesataco trio! You missed out on it

One of the most overhyped places. They do each part so well but the combination and final pull get ruined. It’s too much and you can’t even tell what you’re eating

taco places are a dime a dozen here in los angeles. there is no “must try” taco place here. most are decent; none are lifechanging.

Seems to be this subs favorite place to shit on now. I went a few days ago expecting it to be shit but it was honestly my favorite taco I’ve had in LA.

Why would you get it without the cheese and the crema? That’s what they’re known for and what they definitely do best.

It’s like going to the best deep dish pizza place and ordering a NY slice.

Maybe I just go at weird times but I’ve never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes at the very most. I had it last night and def think it’s above average but wouldn’t wait 30 minutes as some are saying they have. If you’re in the area and order the queso version, give it a whirl. If you go with these massive expectations from far away, you may be underwhelmed.

Oh man the new grand central market location is way better

I thought it was not good. Super small shredded meat and so much sauce it was all i could taste. Not good at all.

I may be wrong but it always tasted to me like they use low quality meat (i.e. cheap meat) that ends up being bland and tough. They then under-season it. So they end up having to count heavily on a cheese crust or on chorizo to give the tacos most of the flavor. Considering they’re not cheap they should up the quality of the meat and may leave fewer people underwhelmed.

Bummer. Yeah, I think the quality has fallen off. And I also think the vibes when it was out of the backyard made it extra fun. The lineups and meeting people made it seem like you were invited to a fun neighborhood party. And it was cool seeing them make something cool out of the darkness of the pandemic. I want to check out the Grand Central location, but I’m nervous now! haha

I hope they can turn it around!

    Still on my try list.

Are there meats still cooked over mesquite? If not I’m going to pass.

Nah this dude got plain ass tacos lol villa tacos is fire i always add cheese on mine but to each its own put some lime and salsa on that thing

  19. Sarcastronaut

Yea not getting the queso tacos at Villa’s is the wrong move here my dude.

  20. yaygens

OP go try Taqueria Frontera in Cypress Park, thank me later

  21. Obey336

You bought the wrong thing homie. Quesataco is where it’s at. The others are just regular old street tacos

  22. esuolcs

The classic Los Angeles fall from grace. Hype and hasty expansion will only lead to diminished quantity and consistency.

I tried the grand central location. Didn’t understand the hype. Wouldn’t go again. One and done
