Found an amazing leek at the Common Ground Fair here in Maine last week. I means… It's no onion. But it's very onion-adjacent.

Thoughts?

  1. those look amazing. I love leeks, but can’t get over how hard they are to clean! Would love any tips if anyone has any

I’m a fan, they are an extraordinary cooking ingredient, and also make an excellent soup by themselves.

I’ve never had a leek, but assuming they are like green onions but bigger then they sound good

I made a bacon and leek dip once. Orgasmic

Never tried em, what did you do with these ones?

Looks killer, I’ll have to try that. What’d ya season it with?

American here. I’m not sure I’ve ever had them aside from maybe an ingredient in a soup. I’m not even sure what they look like. They’re not very common here. I need to check for some good recipes and try making them, assuming we have them in the grocery store.

I have a really hard time trusting leeks to be clean unless I cut them lengthwise. Any hot tips on how to not get gritty bites by doing recipes like this? Or is it more of an oyster situation, when you just have to roll the dice and hope there’s no sand in there?

One of the easiest foods to forage for and they have a long harvestable season

We love them dearly. They have a time and place, however. By invitation only.

I don’t think I’ve ever had any. I should remedy that.

Did you cook them on a flat top? I can’t tell from the pic, or did you grill them? Looks great tho! I’m gonna have to give it a try

During Covid I was obsessed with leeks. They are the best vegetable, super healthy and taste like sweet onion. Cleaning them sometimes sucks, but always worth it.

I LOVE LEEKS!!! me and my bf had a Skyrim themed anniversary dinner for our 7 year and I made some for the first time and god. so good. more complicated that what I usually cook and sorta harder to find, but def will make them again soon.

Yes! Leeks are like onions but with more fiber 🧅💪

I had a blue apron meal once that had melted leeks, which were basically cooked down in butter and white wine. Oh. My. God. They were amazing

I love leeks !! Saute’d then a quick cream sauce with Parmesan and some lemon zest to bind them. Or confit/slow roast topped with feta and dill !

I love them, but I would not eat them like this – the sand would be a problem for me. I slice them with a paring knife to the center and separate each layer for a good cleaning before I sweat them, then onto whatever glorious recipe they were destined for. Soup seems to be my go-to.

all allium are welcome. i find leeks a delicious alternative to onions. the tops cook well in braises if thinly sliced. they also are useful when making a stock.

  24. vaping_menace

They appear in most of the soups I make!

Love leek flavor, hate leek faff.

I can only ever get the siltiest leeks youve ever seen, where I live.

I’m suprised how many haven’t had them!

Definitly try them, onion brethren! Leeks are underrated for sure.

I’ve been intimidated by these at the grocery store. You made it look less intimidating😭!

Anyone have any good leek recipe suggestions? Someone said leek and potato soup, that sounds good.

off topic, I bought some rutabegas from the store and they were wayyy to hard to cut…I’ll just stick to the boring same old same 🫠
