Greenware’s blank compostable PLA cups are not permitted for sale in Washington state due to new compostable packaging labeling requirements. In 2022, Washington State passed House Bill 1799, which created new rules and regulations for the marketing of plastic compostable products. The goal of the bill is to reduce confusion and misleading environmental claims about plastic products. The law applies to food and non-food packaging, film products, film bags, and food service products.

idk, but i do know we have some strict laws about disposable stuff like that. i’m not allowed to give people plastic utensils unless they ask for them. technically i think i’m not even supposed to offer them.

They cause cancer in Washington. You know how most products only cause cancer in California? These cups are like that but for Washington instead.

CA, MA, CT, WA. Those states are the four horsemen of environmental protection.

I used to work in a position involving chemical disposal and there was a compendium of products that were federally okay to dispose of in the regular trash (once solidified). Almost every single product in the book had those four states noted as exceptions. You cannot legally throw away a bottle of Dawn Dish Soap if you’re a waste generating facility.

Other states have decent environmental protection laws on the books but just not as strict. A lot of New England, Oregon, sometimes Montana.
