This is my first year growing a tomato plant and I don't know what is happening here. Is it safe to eat? Was this from a bug? I have food anxiety, if you can't tell, so I'm very nervous.

Could have been a slug that burrowed into it. Or could be a healed wound from same or something else. Need to cut into it to see

Not saying this to be mean, but if you have food anxiety, homegrown tomatoes may not be a great hobby. Real tomatoes are rarely perfect. Or next year, you may want to consider a basic red cherry that is resistant to cracking. These tend to have very few blemishes. And I don’t know it it helps or not, but nothing that infects or affects a fresh tomato is going to make you sick.

Yeah, somebody else started snacking on it before you had your chance to get there!

Nothing (much) wrong with that tomato.
