Can’t be mad at “yes” cook. You asked if they could. Apparently they can.

I mean, it’s a line cook position. You’re not hiring a chef. Besides, 90% of the kitchens I’ve worked in have been multilingual so we usually just describe the colour of the sauce or what’s in it.
With replies like these, it’s clear you’re overshooting for what you expect in a line cook OR you’re underpaying so much that only inexperienced cooks are applying. I’d say a bit of both.

Then how about hiring and being a leader/teacher instead of putting them on blast for lol’s on reddit. I didn’t know the difference between fuck all when I first started at 16. Luckily, I was under the grace of someone who did.

You gotta hand it to them for not just looking it up if you’re not interviewing them in person, that or they’re not that smart to think of it.

I recently got an email application that was just, “Please hire me,” with a picture of an evil clown attached. It was a bold strategy, even for a dishie spot.

my favorite part about this is that it wasn’t like an in-person interview question, each of them could easily have googled it and been 100% correct regardless of whether they actually have that much culinary knowledge or not lmao. if I *had* to choose one of these four, though, it would definitely be candidate #1
