I'm here with another highly controversial post. Apparently, tongue in cheek isn't appreciated here in Los Angeles so I'm going to get straight to the point from a pragmatic and economic perspective.
Los Angeles is expensive.
Jobs don't pay enough, and inflation is rampant.
Grocery stores are gouging, and we can't afford food anymore.
So, what do we do when we have lost both our sense of humor and our ability to consume enough food and calories to stay alive? Well, I think we know the answer is, alcohol.
Booze is not food (youtube.com)
Is booze food? I think it can be under the right circumstances which is on a Friday the 13th (just as scary as paying for food with a debit card) and when the price is right.
There's something like 200 calories in a pint of beer and tonight, at the Gelson's on the corner of Olympic and Bundy (the Riot Games building) beers are only $3.00 from 4-8 PM. That's right, the wine bar at Gelson's (which is weird in and of itself but does exist) has a beer special where the first beer is $3 and you get to keep a nifty commemorative glass. Typically, they then raise subsequent bees to $5 each but apparently, tonight, those beers will remain $3 bucks. So, for $9 you can get a solid 600 calorie "meal", a free glass to take home and drink milk in later, a tight buzz to help you forget how expensive life is and 3 pints of classic hydration from a local brewery (you're supporting small and local businesses).
If $3 is too much, you can legit stand on the corner of Olympic and Bundy with a cardboard sign that says literally anything at all, and you'll get $10 in a few minutes. Head in, buy three beers, when they're gone, head back out and get some more money at the corner of Olympic and Bundy – this is an infinite beer "food" hack.
Blessings.
