I know I shouldn’t, but I don’t know ~why~ it’s a bad idea.

Doesn’t look too vacuum sealed to me.

  2. jjjeremiahz

Why would you? All that chicken juice in the bag and no seasoning?

  3. cherryventura

These always have leaks whenever I defrost them. I wouldn’t

You don’t know how well it’s sealed and, more important, you don’t know if that plastic is heat safe.

    Don’t.

Oof. This question for the 14th dozen time.

New r/sousvide subreddit rule number 9. No, never cook any meat or poultry in the plastic packer or retail wrap.

I did all the time with no problem for 2 years straight.

Why not just throw a can of shredded chicken in the water bath? At least that has some salt…

  9. granthubbell

I have, it does not work. Bag always bursts

I do to thaw them out… But otherwise I season and rebag to cook.

Most likely that vac pack is not suitable, but still do the job. You’re talking about 65c, that’s not too much. Regarding food safety, no one thought of coking with the packaging, so I wouldn’t do it on a regular basis.

    Third reason, it’s not seasoned!

I’ve done it before, twice. First time went well, second the bag leaked. You’re playing Russian roulette. Don’t.
