Anybody else ever save and use these for stuff, despite the fact that they biodegrade into sticky tar after 1-3 years?

I love doing this when I prep asparagus! We already waste so much in this industry that I’m happy to be able to reuse something. They’re super convenient too for sealing bags without wasting Saran Wrap, taking the time to tie things shut… or even throwing them back open to spoil and spill (smh).

Sadly I’m the only one who does this, and people don’t seem to realize rubber bands are reusable so they often get trashed after one reuse, but hey, at least they get another use if I can get to them! I wish more people thought to be more considerate about waste; I’d rather use a washable deli than a damn styrofoam cup any day if I need a cup in a pinch, things like that.

Save them for when spring comes and you pick bagfuls at the pick your own.

I’ve never bought rubber bands because they grow on asparagus and I harvest them at work. Isn’t that where everyone gets them?

Funny story, years ago the chef hired his friend who was family to be sous chef. This dude was a POS. He tried to fight one of the cooks on the line, would stay at the host stand flirting with the underage hostess and so much more. Everyone hated him. One year on New Year’s Eve he was working at station that only did features and was getting rocked. The cooks on hotline were slow because most of the tickets were features. We had a 3rd pan with rubber bands in it and during serving we built a rubber band ball and playing with. None of the cooks helped him out and he was so pissed off so we started building another rubber band ball lol

I saved them for my cat who had a weird fixation with rubber bands, hair ties, and etc. and would horde them in her basket. She wouldn’t try to eat them or anything just horde them like a dragon

I have a dish full above my sink. I use them so much. I keep them too!

I use one as a wallet, I replace it every year. Best wallet there is

I used to wrap them around my lighter. The amount of times I found a use for them was pretty surprising, and I always had a few of them on me.

Hahahha I literally have 2 in my pocket right now

  16. They’ll make a great rubber band ball. Be safe in the kitchen, though.

yep. one of the other line cooks always asks me to save them so he can use them to keep his broken shoe together

Hell yeah! Take every empty container the kitchen throws away and turn it into your personal high-performance Tupperware. I feel no shame.

I collect them together with other useful things in an apothecary jar on the windowsill in my kitchen

Leaving one of these on my wrist all day was actually how I discovered I was allergic to latex
