I showed that photo to my toilet and it ran away and hid in the closet. Looks delicious though

Great spot. And the menu feels like 2010 prices hahah

To me the Freida’s enchiladas dish is Austin distilled. When I move it will probably be my last supper here.

  5. Whenever friends or co-workers come to town I always take them to the Chili Parlor. Such an incredible place. I also recommend the tamales with white pork chili.

I was in Austin for 6 days. Just landed at airport back home. I Went to the chili parlor 5 out of 6 days. It was by far my favorite establishment of any kind in Austin.

Dennis Quaid was there today for lunch too.

I know they ate open until 2am but what time does the kitchen close?

When I went 2 yrs ago, because it was on my bucket list for Austin before I left. Ordered the venison chili and it was the worst chili I’ve ever had in my life. My friend said the same and we didn’t finish our meal. We’re both raised on eating venison so I know it wasn’t the gamey state. I don’t recommend.

Had their cheeseburger earlier this week and it was delicious. Sat at the bar and the dude was super friendly. Just a great spot all around with good vibes and good food.

  11. Make sure you don’t find a roach at the bottom of your drinking cup

  12. Used to meet up there before walking in the PRIDE parade. Good times.

That photo is calling to me. I’m going to drive up from San Antonio where virtually all of our Tex-Mex joints here serve cheese enchiladas with red “chili gravy” goo on them instead of real chili con carne like God intended.

It’s been decades since I’ve eaten at the Texas Chili Parlor, and I have never had their cheese enchiladas.

  14. One of the best plates in Austin, or Texas, for that matter. They’ll add some onions in top if ya ask nicely. Looking forward to my next walk over for lunch.

Last time I was there, the food was cold and awful.

    Bowl of Habanero. Bass Ale.
I don’t think I’ve ever ordered anything different, except once I got a bowl of Triple X and it was not as good. I don’t expect it will ever win any awards but in 31 years, I’ve never been disappointed.

THIS is the Texas Chili Parlor y’all go on about? jfc

  18. It’s a dive bar. Not a gourmet restaurant. I love it because I know what I’m in for. Service can range from exceptional to down right rude. Food is comfort food, not Michelin star rated. It’s dependable and affordable. The steak and enchiladas is one of the best deals in the city. How they can remain open downtown at those prices is truly a miracle. Take a page from Guy Clark and get a mad dog margarita. Don’t be pretentious. Enjoy it for what it is.
