I wouldnt have even responded. Legal issues and trying to drag you into it? Nope. Talk to my lawyer at that point.

  2. just_bored27

There are some details missing here but both of these people would be responsible for paying taxes, unless Dish was entirely under the table then fuck the owner for throwing them under the bus.

  3. CantaloupeCamper

Seems like you should **stop texting with this guy**.

    1. Nothing this guy says sounds trustworthy. There is zero value in texting with him. You might say something stupid…
    2. If the government wants something from you, they’ll usually mail you **directly**. THAT is how you find out exactly what they want (if anything) the lay of the land.

Scrape together all your paperwork you got from this guy, hang onto it.

If it is true the sheriff’s office going after this guy, his issues have already progressed a long ways without involving you … keep it that way.

One of the things I know about life is you don’t fuck with the tax man….they will get theirs one way or another.

Also stop talking to this guy. He’s up to something.

  5. insanahmainah

I worked at a diner in Portland Maine and we had a dish guy we hired, he was experienced and was pretty good. One day local police came in and arrested him right in the kitchen for non-payment of child support to the tune of 100k. WTF.

  6. you’re both on the hook. they definitely notified you that they would garnish your wages. and they definitely notified him to comply since you’re on his business books. you guys should fist fight and post that next

  7. A sheriff’s office will never get someone else in court to get withholdings from you. None of this makes any sense.

  8. Oh wow a hard r haven’t seen one of those in awhile

  9. ReubenTrinidad619

I haven’t seen the N word spelled like that in a long ass time and I don’t care for it

  10. Both of you sound like you’ve spent too much time huffing paint out back. Do you not look at your paychecks? Do you not have some idea of what should be taken out?

  11. spam__likely

If you think this is about your boss not withholding taxes on payroll, you are very, very wrong. This is about you not paying your taxes, or child support, or you have a judgement against you. IF, and this is a big if, any of this is legit. Can very well be a scam.

  12. Asleep_Draft_8316

Can’t tell if ex boss hasn’t been remitting income taxes withheld from employees paychecks, or if OP might owe income taxes. Conservation on both ends too dumb to sort through lol

Oops, could also be regarding ignoring garnishment orders

  13. Blue_foot

It’s 100% boss dude on the hook for not sending withheld taxes to the government. It’s a tale as old as time in the small business world.

Unless he was paying OP under the table and did not subtract FICA from OP’s checks.

  14. workaholic007

IRS ain’t sending no goon squad for that type of money…lol idiots.

  15. pax_penguina

yo, uh, why tf is this guy texting the hard r like it’s nobody’s business??? please tell me you clocked them for that

  16. wemustburncarthage

My final kitchen job I left because the boss was stealing tips from us by erasing them off the debit machine record. I should’ve called the CRA on them because it would’ve been funny.

  17. This ain’t about taxes, this is about someone filing a suit against you, you not showing up, and them getting a default judgement and trying to collect from you. Child support, whatever it is. If it was taxes they’d find you at your home.

  18. Texting back was a mistake, especially admitting that if you did any crimes, it was not intentional. They don’t gaf about if you meant to do a crime or not. Holy shit lol. Good luck.

  19. Objective-Insect-839

Ahh yes irs man let me just refer you to our accountant/dishwasher. He will be able to answer all your tax questions.

  20. robo_rowboat

Good lord, guilty or not, Shut the Fuck Up Friday is an every day sort of holiday. Learn to celebrate that shit in these types of situations.

  21. suedoughnim42

Is there any chance you owe on a debt turned over to collections? You might be getting sued. As someone who works in collections, if we can’t serve you at your house, we’ll serve you anywhere we can find you. Last known place of employment is a good start.

  22. KyleSherzenberg

As a former chef of 17 years and now a person who works for the IRS, find out what this is about

Something sounds off about this though. We don’t have local sheriffs do our busy work

  23. STOP COMMUNICATING WITH HIM.

If he’s that willing to toss you under the boss, don’t give him anymore information to use against you.

In the event the Sheriff does show up, DON’T SAY A DAMN THING. Use your right to remain silent, then…

    Get an attorney.

  24. A few things I’ll say. Did you fill out a w4 correctly or did you try to claim exempt. Did you file taxes every year? All that stuff should be in w4’s.

If he didn’t pay taxes but you were withheld that’ll be in his ass.

  25. Bleacherblonde

Are you sure he’s not texting a scammer? One of those ones that threaten to arrest you by text or email unless you pay $5K right now by apple gift card or some shit

  26. Weeblifter

I’m confused why one is calling the other hard r

  27. TheOvercusser

You are responsible for your taxes regardless of what your boss does. This is why you keep every paystub from the past 5 years. Because if he was a scumbag and didn’t remit the funds to the government, it’s your word against his unless you got documentation.

Also, if this isn’t about taxes… Not knowing about a court case because you refuse to be found will get you held in summary judgment. Courts will not tolerate that shit.

  28. corporate_subsidy

I think maybe boss man meant “garnishment” but said withholding. Back child support or a big judgment in civil or family case would get the Sheriff looking. If the order to garnish was sent to bossman as OPs employer and he didn’t follow through while OP was on his payroll, he could well have a bit of a headache, too

  29. realKingCarrot_v2

It’s a scam. Sheriffs don’t work for the IRS. The scammer is counting on you not knowing that.

  30. “Imma turn you in”. That man flipped before he even knew what was going on

  31. Kaneshadow

Totally sounds like he watches too much true crime TV, smokes too much weed, and is trying to fabricate evidence that you had something to do with whatever he’s getting in trouble for. I enjoy that you are not even pretending to be cool with him haha. “I don’t know what you’re talking about and if they come after me I will turn you in immediately”
