Madhurakkizhangu puzhukku is an easy, delicious as well as nutritious and healthy breakfast recipe of Kerala. This dish is also referred to as madhurakizhangu Vevichathu. Madhurakkizhangu is also known aschilakada dumpa, sweet potato, shakarkandi, sarkaraivalli Kizhangu, ratalu, ratale recipe, mishit aloo or ranga aloo, madhurakkizhangu, shakkariya, genasina, madhurakizhangu puzhungiyathu. Sweet potato is widely consumed across india. It is taken as breakfast or as a staple food in kerala. It is boiled (after skinning and cutting it into large pieces in water till adequately cooked, and the water is drained off. Once cooked, it can be mixed with grated coconut, chilli, salt, turmeric, etc.

–Ingredients for mashed sweet potato or shakarkandi recipe
Sweet potato 1 kg
Water as required
Salt 1 tsp
Grated coconut 1 cup
Shallot 7 or onion 43 g
Garlic 4-6
Green chilli 2-3
Curry leaves 2-3 sprigs
Cumin seeds ½ tsp
Salt ½ tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Red chilli powder ½ tsp

–Instruction for madhurakkizhangu puzhukku.
Take fresh sweet potato, then peel the skin and chop the shakarkandi. Rinse in water for 2 to 3 times.
Add salt to taste and pressure cook for to 2 whistles.
Drain it and set aside.
Grind or crush together grated coconut, green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin seeds, curry leaves, garlic and shallots coarsely.
Add the coconut mixture to tapioca and mix well.
Serve with chilli chutney, fish curry or chicken curry!
