I got this at a local restaurant. Before having it i had tried to make it at home. I thought it was meant to have way more gochujang? And be more red in appearance? This had a bit of soup/stew at the base, i thought it was supposed to ve kind of saucy, almost glazed? Is my concept off?

    That’s not tteokboki. That looks like eomak bokkeum to me… stir fried fish cakes with veggies. Also yummy but no spicy red sauce and very different dish in all ways.

    Definitely not traditional tteokbokki. I feel like everyone has their own way of doing it. I know you got it at the store, but when I make it at home I always cook it down a bit so that the sauce is thick and coats everything. This type looks like they did it very watery/soupy.

    There are two flavors of tteokbokki. Non-spicy is soy sauce based (Gungjang) and the spicy one is made with Gochujang.

    Did you eat most of the rice cakes? This is very heavy on the fish cakes and vegetables. I guess it’s probably better for your blood sugar levels since there is more protein and vegetables.

    Korean here.
    Doesn’t look like tteokboki lol but still looks good. Make sure u add some spice even tho u dont like spicy food. Or if u r too weak at eating spicy foods, try making gungjoong tteokboki (궁중떡볶이) it’s not spicy at all and everyone likes it.
    If u want to make easy recipe, go to korean or asian market near u and get tteokboki kits ( some of those actually taste like tteokboki in korea).

    Unless its made with gochujang/jong it is basically a white chunk of rice cake

    They definitely served you something other than tteokbokki. I mean it looks tasty, but that’s not a traditional recipe, whatever that is.

    What did it say on the menu? Any way that you ordered the wrong thing? Like maybe a dish that had tteok in it, but wasn’t tteokbokki.
