I am feeling gutted. I woke up this morning to find that my tomato plant's stem and one of its branches were broken. I have no idea what happened. Can this still be fixed or do I need to let this plant go?

Also, thank you to everyone who shared their advice from my previous post about finding a 5 – 10 gallons of pot for my tomato plants. I am now looking for a store where I can buy them.

Maybe! Carefully straighten and wrap the stem in tape (I like to use medical tape).

Since the plant is so small, you will have to remove the tape once it gets bigger but it should grow back together.

You can trim off the damaged part and it will reduce a sprout a new leader in a week or two.

I would just cut it off where it broke. Use the part you cut off and stick it in some water to root. The bottom section will now grow two new stems.

You can, like others said but honestly it’s not worth the effort. Just pop down to a big box store and get another plant.

I’ve had them “heal” after straitening up and wrapping, then still had an incredible season. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  6. If you cut it off at below the break, it’s to grow two stems .
I’ve never done this but i have cut the top of my plant and have had two stems grow out.

It’ll be totally fine! Two options, straighten it and wrap the stem with something like gauze or whatever ribbon and let it regraft itself, or trim it and let it regrow a new leader/sideshoot

Leave it. If it wilts and dies off, then oh well.

If it continues to grow, let it. Eventually it will start trying to put roots at that point just put more soil on that part. Or break it off to have to plants

Don’t even trim it! If it’s still even a little bit attached, it will heal. Just stake it, tie it up so it’s stable, and maybe give it a bandage if you’d like (not strictly necessary). It will make a full recovery.

  10. Yes. tape, superglue (just enough on the outside to hold), and or wait for the inevitable new sucker.

Would recommend buying some tomato clips, as they are perfect for this situation.
