The only place in the state that will allow it. Connie Ballmer, Steve Ballmer's wife, contributed $1 million to Gov. Gavin Newsom's campaign to fight his recall in 2021. Ballmer owns Intuit Dome.

So damn stupid. At least it will (hopefully) serve as a precedent and a stepping stone to other locations.

  2. Wouldn’t Sofi fall under this as well? They can be considered a “fully-enclosed arena” with their roof and can have a private area. I love the pettiness of the capacity minimum at 18,000, just over the Forum’s capacity.

Edit: I just remembered Ballmer owns the Forum too, so now I wonder why they didn’t put the capacity at 17,000 (the Forum is 17,500) instead.

Amazes me how cynical and corrupt newsom is.

And he is delusional enough to think he has a shot at being president!

Bet you he got a nice private donation for this favor

I hate Newsom but this is way overdue.

The amount of illegal after hours places around the city (at least in LA) has tripled since pandemic to the point where they don’t even try to hide it anymore.

Do a quick Reddit search and you can find multiple places serving alcohol after 2am.

  6. I feel like the biggest variable here would be whether or not other cities would approve of similar changes.

It’s not as if Newsom passed the bill unilaterally.

I don’t know if I care, wouldn’t go there either way. Good luck Balmer!

Nice to know you can’t just buy our politicians

He also banned dinning during COVID but was in the French Laundry during the lockdown

Hey Newsome, want to really fight DUIs? Improve public transit!

Alcohol sales shouldn’t be closed because of the time of day. It’s an archaic holdover from back when it was very rare for middle class or higher people to work alternative shifts

We need 4 am for all clubs/bars in LA! Would make our nightlife so much better

I am sure everyone will drink responsibly and also have a designated driver or uber it home.

This is what matters to him 🤦🏽‍♀️

Wow, how is this beneficial to ANYONE except the owners of the arena ? More of rich people pushing laws that favor rich people . Why does anyone need alcohol past 2am ?

  16. Eudamonia

Blatant corruption that billionaires can have designer legislation

  17. HorsepowerAndFreedom

I can’t wait for this to go statewide. Instead of DUI crashes at 2-5am. They will be during the morning commute with children on the road. Great thinking.

Newsom again getting his kick backs from the rich. Just like the guy likes licking CDCRs boots by doing the same.

  19. pitchfork_2000

Why would they need alcohol sales until 4am when their events don’t go past midnight or earlier?

If anyone needs more drinks it’s Clippers fans after a basketball game
