Protein +/- veggies +/- sauce surrounded by bread? Yep, that’s a sandwich. And a damn tasty looking one too.

  2. SVL looks fantastic- haven’t been to Astoria in a while but I think I really need to pay a visit!

Idk, I’d classify it as a wrap, sort of a sandwich sub-category. I once read “if someone offers you and sandwich and what they hand you makes you question their thinking, it’s not a sandwich, it’s something else”, which has been a pretty good metric for me so far.

Edit: that being said, it looks delicious. A good gyro can be hard to find.

If someone asks me if I wanted a sandwhich and they gave me a gyro, it wouldn’t be what I’d expected. But I think gyros and any other dish like döner or dürüm (best imo) should be welcomed with open arms in this sub

A gyro is absolutely a sandwich and I would deem any “wrap” is also and we are just down to semantics at that point.

Now, a hamburger and a hot dog are a whole other matter.

According to [the highest authority of food identification](https://cuberule.com/), a traditional gyro is a taco. Depending on how much the fillings are covered, it could be considered a sushi or salad with a bread bowl. The one pictured here is a taco for sure though.

Edit: the link is safe and a fun read.

No unless you count a pasta dish as a salad, or pizza as a flatbread

I’ll allow it because it looks good

That looks just like the ones in Santorini

A sandwich is defined by two discreet slices of bread. This is a hill I’m willing to die on. That looks like an excellent gyro though.

If saying yes is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.
