I thought I was buying silken tofu which normally comes out of the package in one piece. Instead the tofu looks like this which I’ve never seen before. It smells normal but has anyone seen tofu like this before and how would I check if it’s still safe to eat?

Yikes… I dunno about that. That don’t look right. Rather safe than sorry.

Is it still in date? You would use extra soft tofu in sundubu.

It looks like it was shaken vigorously. It looks really liquefied rather than really torn up. I’d skip, it’s not worth the risk

There is a type of tofu in Korea called Chodang Dubu (초당두부) which is softer and more “curdled”.

But I’m not sure if this is a brand that is NOT supposed to look curdled. The pinkish discoloration on the top of the photo looks slightly suspicious to me though.

  5. Sometimes, tofu will curdle like this if it spent any time being inadvertently frozen, and then thawed. It’s something that could happen in the store, like if it was stored improperly. I’ve had it happen in my own fridge, where the tofu was in the back/bottom of the fridge where it got really cold.

I’ve bought this exact product multiple times for soondubu and it didn’t look like that when I had it. It was like regular silken tofu but maybe a little more delicate.
