Who down voted this? Soaking the rice is a must for consistently cooked rice

It’s so important! Can I ask how long you let it rest in the clean water before you cook it? I always do 30-60 minutes depending on the size but I’d like to know if that’s correct

How does this help?
I’m coming from a cajun, latin background. We rinse our rice (usually long grain). So, I rinse my short grain, but then just throw it in the rice cooker. Should I be letting it rest first??

This post was super helpful! I never knew this and I make sushi like, when I am going through a sushi phase like 3-4 times a month lol. I will be doing this from now on.

How about not soaking the rice but pre soak the kelp then use the Konbu dashi to cook the rice.

Do you also let the rice rinse/dry after soaking it for sometime?

I was under the impression that my rice cooker had soaking as part of the cooking process. Is this soaking on top of the normal rice cooker rest period?

I soak it for at least 30 minutes. It makes a big difference. Try next time.

Yep, we give ours a good rinsing, but then let it soak for at least 30 minutes fully submerged before draining ones last time and then cooking. 25 cups of rice per batch

For evenly cooked rice in a commercial setting, it’s super important. When cooking a small portion for home, the impact is not as significant.
