In October, I spent 22 days in Japan, my first time! In addition to a wealth of other incredible Japanese dishes, I indulged in ramen a number of times. My photos are in order of my preference, with locations and details below.
1. Level 5 Yuzu Ratan Ramen from Afuri in Shinjuku, Tokyo – Delicious and spicy, with a perfectly jammy egg, one of my favourite bites from my trip. 2. Hiroshima-style Tsukemen from Bakudana in Hiroshima – This cold, yet spicy local dipping noodle dish was so refreshing on a very hot afternoon. 3. Toripaitan from Bokkoshi Ramen in Osaka – Comfort in a bowl. This was rich and creamy, perfect for a cool, rainy night after a long day at USJ. 4. Classic Tonkotsu from Ichiran in Osaka – My first taste of Japan, after a late arrival into Osaka. I’m glad I didn’t wait hours in line for this, but it was still incredibly delicious, and the perfect welcome after a 30-hour travel day. 5. The “Rich and creamy chicken noodle soup” from Ramen Katamuki in Kyoto – not quite as good as the Toripaitan, as the broth wasn’t quite as hot as I wanted it to be, and the chicken in the soup was still cold, so the broth didn’t warm it up. 6. Yonakisoba from the Dormy Inn Premium Ginza in Tokyo – my hotel offered free late night noodles, so I tried them. It’s a fun gimmick, but they were average at best and not worth the stomach space or calories, so I only had them once during my 4-night stay.
