Hey guys,
A guy on Facebook marketplace had a really good deal on Starbucks Nespresso Pods. He had them for around $4.4 a box (8 capsules) tax included. Tried comparing them to the originals but they look exactly the same minus a minor color difference in a circle (I’ll attach a pic below). Guy was sketchy tho so yeah. Selling them out of his car lol.
So, are counterfeit pods a thing?
The pics I’ll attach below is for the limited edition pumpkin spice. They both look identical, down to the manufacturing date (same day, different time). Capsules look identical as well.
The circled part is the only visible difference I saw. The marketplace one is a bit lighter than the store bought one.
Right is store bought left is marketplace.
Thank you!!

I have never heard of fake Nespresso pods, especially virtuo ones. I say go for it
I doubt it, too hard to manufacture. They are probably just stolen or something.
You’re fine. Minor differences in packaging are not a red flag. The guy was probably a jobber. There’s nothing to worry about.
These were marked down to $3 near me so yeah, these are probably legit.
Think about it logically for a minute, would it at all be profitable to counterfeit pods?? They still have to source the pods, and fill it with some sort of coffee, and then repackage it in a way that wouldn’t immediately throw up red flags. And then on top of that, they’re spending the time and effort to market and sell it, to a particularly snobby crowd at that.
By the time you’re spending that much effort, they might as well be selling/counterfeiting something more lucrative than Nespresso pods.
If you’re really worried, the only test you need to do is squeeze the pod a little. If it’s puffy, then the pod is sealed properly, and probably fine.
Likely, the guy just bought (or stole, possibly, surprisingly common) a bulk case from somewhere and is selling them to make a quick buck. You already gave them your money, so the damage is already done.
