WYOMING — Food Bank of Wyoming (FBW) reported that food insecurity has reached the highest level in a decade, prompting the agency to anticipate increased demand this holiday season.

According to a FBW press release, one in seven people in Wyoming is currently experiencing hunger; this includes one in five kids. In fiscal year 2024, which ended in June, the FBW saw a 25% increase in the amount of food distributed to neighbors experiencing hunger across Wyoming.

“This staggering statistic underscores the critical need for ongoing support throughout the state,” FBW writes.

To meet the increased demand and provide food this Thanksgiving for those in need, the FBW is preparing the following:

Sourcing food items to be distributed to local communities through mobile pantries and 150 Hunger Relief Partners.

Helping Hunger Relief Partners fill their shelves with Thanksgiving food items such as gravy mixes, corn, canned cranberry sauce, canned sweet potatoes and fresh food such as celery, potatoes, squash and apples.

Procuring food using funds donated by individuals and corporate donors. FBW is able to purchase food in bulk quantities, where $1 provides three meals.
