My nieces and nephew did an amazing job picking the tins from my stash for our holiday spread. And they also demolished all the most out-there cans I tried to challenge them with. Grilled squid in black-as-night ink sauce: Loved it. Super-spicy POW! pilchards from Rainbow Tomatoes Garden: Tore through two cans, and other family had to fight their way in. Smoked conger eel from Gulf of Maine: Looks of delight.

So very pleasing to me that the young folks are game. Started the board with the five cans these kids picked, but ended up cracking open the seven others I’d brought as back up, too. Only 31 guests at our feast, so hearty appetites all around—these were just appetizers, for Pete’s sake.

I am going to have to get past the look and try some squid in ink sauce. Happy holiday.

“Only 31 guests…” lol. That’s a good-sized crowd around here. Great grub and a lovely family — you’re doing the holidays right!

So, the guy in the back looks pissed. Y’all should feed him before it’s too late.

Looks great. I’m not surprised canned seafood fans are olive fans too.
