Hosted a Gamay tasting today. We blind tasted a beaujolais nouveau, beaujolais villages, and two cru beaujolais – Fleurie and Brouilly. Wanted to taste the range of Gamay. It was really successful!
The Nouveau was good – 2024 was a good year. Fresh fruit, bubble gum.
The Beaujolais Villages was great. Almost to the level of a cru. Nice tannins, a little more minerality.
The Brouilly was a little small. Ripe red fruits, not a ton of mouthfeel, very close to the villages. It eas hard to tell them apart.
The Fleurie was the star of the night. Complex nose and palate. Flowers and red fruits, nice tannish, good structure. Age worthy – would like to taste this in three years.
All in all a fun night.
