Maybe this post belongs in rant but I feel like this community would empathize more. Here’s the story
I have gotten really into broth making over the last few years. So much so that at least once a year I request PTO so I can meal prep the most amazing broth for ramen. I’ve been saving bones in my freezer all year but I wanted to really amp up the flavor. So I picked up extra soup bones from the butcher department at my local grocery store. I got chicken feet and necks, pork feet and necks, and smoked ham hocks. For aromatics I added mirepoix, leeks, ginger, fennel, garlic, and a bunch of herbs and spices. I also added apple cider vinegar and rice vinegar to help the bones break down better. I wanted the flavor to be perfect so I also made sure to only use filtered water. Slowly filling the pot one pitcher at a time.
I boiled this masterful creation for so long that as I begun the straining process some of the bones literally crumbled in my hand like a short bread cookie. The smell was intoxicating!
This is a huge batch and the process of straining, cooling, and skimming the fat is quite time consuming and uses a lot of dishes. I get about 2/3 of my way through this process and discover a fucking silica pad from the butcher had fallen into my soup and I didn’t realize it. All that effort, all that cost- for nothing!

I’d still eat it
Silica is non-toxic, you’re fine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silica_gel
Murder Soup!
Pls show us the finished product
Omg that sucks, at least you found it
i’d still eat this. the silica pad is mostly sand and cellulose. any bacteria it had from the meat was also cooked down with the broth. especially considering how much you made, the small amount of sand (even after straining) will have very little affect on it i think!
