KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A retired Kansas City police detective has a new purpose during the holiday season.

Richard White and his group of volunteers have hosted a free Christmas Day dinner every year for decades. This will be the 48th time he’s spent the holiday with people who are spending the holiday alone.

There are only two requirements to get a free meal:

You must be at least 60 years oldYou must make a reservation so they know how many meals are needed

Last year the group served smoked turkey to more than 800 seniors in the Kansas City area. This year they hope to serve even more people.

In an effort to feed as many people as possible, the Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner organization will serve and deliver meals from the following three locations:

The group will provide transportation, if needed. Meals for those who are homebound will also be available for delivery.

The free dinner is funded completely through private donations each year.
