When in Burgundy, drink rare wines. Spotted this for a fair price on the menu and couldn’t leave it, even though I planned on white.

    ##Tasting note:
Cherry, strawberry, raspberry, smoky, violets, licorice and pepper. Medium plus acidity and long finish. Tannins are very sturdy and hard.

The nose is really fantastic, especially day 2 and 3, but this is so difficult at the moment. Not much drinking pleasure. Not worth the bizarre market price, luckily I paid 135 myself. Big potential, with a lot of time, this could become an amazing wine. Right now, the tannins are too stiff and hard. The only problem is that you can only find it young for a reasonable price.

I will never understand why these wines command such a premium. They are no better than many/most of his colleagues’ offerings, at every level.

  3. For those wondering why the wines are so expensive, in part, it’s an intentional effort to undercut secondary markets. There’s a lot of producers that sell their wines at reasonable prices only for distributions and resellers to make money off them, Charles decided that if the wines would be sold at these prices anyways the winery would be the one to benefit. He also goes as far as asking for guarantees from restaurants that they won’t sell at more than 2x his bottles.
