Una bota? Every time we went for a hike and lunch on the mountain. Very common in corridas de toros as well.

It’s a Bota or Zahato in Spanish. In English, a wine skin. It’s a rustic wine holder. The picture is lifted straight from the Wikipedia page that tells you the same thing (taken by Ardo Beltz and posted there by himself).

We used to use them to carry wine when skiing.

The other fun one is the Spanish porron. It’s got a conical spout to allow you to pour directly into your mouth without touching the decanter.

Bota, great to spill your wine all over your white shirt 😂

Nasty. Ruins everything you put in it. They were common ski accessories when I was young in the 70s and 80s. Made everything taste like leather tanning chemicals. Aspen ski chic in the1970s. Part mountain man part euro glam.

It was a requirement in the 1960s and 1970s to own one. I drank more Ripple out of one of these than I care to remember.

Bota Bag. Very popular in the 70’s, especially among skiers who wanted to drink wine on the slopes.

  7. Mulliganasty

Back in the day it was illegal to ski without one.

I remember my grandparents drinking something from it called Manzanilla at bull fights.

  9. Can’t believe you’ve never seen a bota bag before. What kind of children are we raising in America?

Boda bag! Used to ski with ours. It’s still in the basement

We called them space bags. But the plastic ones. It’s kinda cute like when you see alcoholics in movies and they have a tiny flask they pour a few drops into coffee cup or something. It’s adorable honey but I have a fucking condition. Alcohol should be more regulated than weed.

Yes! Went on a food tour in Madrid and the tour guide had this and we drank out of it in a restaurant. He held it out and shot the wine from afar as a game who could catch it in their mouth the furthest.

  13. Had one, back in the 1960s. It had the magical ability to transform halfway decent wine into pig piss.

Used them many times. Used to be common place at ski resorts in Sierra Nevada (California). Probably still is in the Sierra Nevada (Spain)

  15. On the way to a bullfight in Zaragoza we had to stop by a vendor that would put whatever wine you wanted in a bota bag for the spectacle. That and the Cuban cigar made it awesome 😎
