I know there’s a couple of posts addressing this but just wanted to talk about this sandwich because it is beyond any spice I’ve ever experienced in my life. Like most of us, thought is was BS. “No way it’s THAT hot”.

Mind you, I’ve been on the look out for some really spicy hot sauces/salsas/spices/peppers you name it! I love the heat! I’ve eaten many habeneros, ghosts, scorpions, reapers… (my fav is chopped reapers in a burger) but anyways… nothing compared to the pain of this damn sandwich…

First bite was okay I tasted everything and right when I swallowed was when I started to feel the burn… my wife looked at me like I should probably not take another bite, I should’ve listened, but I consider myself a spice king so I took another bite.

That was it. I sat there for 10 minutes constantly drinking that pink Hi-C and inhaling super hard to cool off my mouth. My eyes were watering and I was sweating so much. The chef came around and asked what I got and I couldn’t even talk. Just pain pain pain. He came and gave me a water cup full of whatever slushie they got over there and I’m convinced it saved my life lol.

And if that wasn’t bad enough I wasn’t buying it. I went the next day and convinced myself I was just being a baby about it… but nope. Could still only take 2 bites until I tapped out. It is just painful.

Very humbling experience, I am just a spice baby after all. I can’t imagine anyone being able to eat this. All the videos I see on YouTube have to be fake lol (jk props to those who can do it)

I really signed that waiver TWICE thinking they were bullshitting… the bathroom visits have proved me wrong. You win Dave. You win.

Hot Chicken really is next level spice when you order the hottest available.

Like, it’s just so much fucking spice powder. I order the medium level of heat usually now anytime I have it, it’s just not worth the gastrointestinal distress.

The waivers are purely a marketing gimmick, but also it’s just an easy thing to point to if people ask for a refund because it’s too hot.

My palate can handle it. My stomach on the other hand would like me to avoid the reaper sando like the plague.

They have Hi C at Dave’s? That’d be the perfect drink to go with the reaper sandwich, I always get an IPA. I didn’t even realize…

  4. BropolloCreed

It’s almost as if Dave’s got sick of hearing about the inconsistent heat experience on the reaper and decided to go full “fuck your gut”

  5. Resident_Rise5915

Wonder if there’s extract in the reaper concoction they use

  6. IceyCoolRunnings

It’s at the threshold of being too spicy to enjoy imo

I’ve never been to this place but they opened a new one in my hood. What sandwich should I get then if not the one OP had?

I like very spicy food, but the heat should compliment the flavor, not just be hot for its own sake, like some of the extract hot sauces out there.

I always do medium, i tried the hot once and it destroyed my stomach.

Like 2 years back I got the same Reaper sandwich plus tenders. Managed to finish the burger and half the tenders, but my stomach was fucked up the rest of the night into the following afternoon. Like I was supposed to do stuff that day, but I stayed on the toilet instead fucked up. Never again.

I ate a raw ghost pepper once and I can only describe it as having a red hot coal in the middle of my throat, followed by the most painful stomach cramps I thought possible 2 hours later. If I hadn’t smoked a fat bong after eating it I think I may have passed out from those cramps. Surprisingly absolutely zero pain out my ass.

So you’re telling me you chop up reapers and eat them on burgers for fun, and THIS sandwich was unbeatable for you? Do they dip in pepper spray? Incredible, maybe one day you can complete the whole thing

Did the reaper slider two weeks ago, it was very very hot, I finished it, was fine about a half hour-45 minutes after, but just too hot to be enjoyable. Didn’t taste bad, but it physically hurt from how hot it was. Went back the next day, got two hot sliders, they were perfect

How is Dave’s hot chicken not going to have a location in TN when it “specializes in Nashville hot chicken”? Sorry I’m just salty because I want to try it

  13. Icy_Pollution_3954

This sandwich has to be inconsistent. I did reaper a few years ago and couldn’t feel anything. I did extra hot weeks before that and it burned.

  14. The reaper bites are my Dave’s go-to meal now. They may not be as hot, but they are super delicious!

  15. I did the reaper sandwich on Saturday night. My mouth was fine my stomach was fucked. It took hours for it to calm down enough to sleep. Never again

  16. BackgroundPrompt3111

A pair of the reaper tenders usually gets me where I’m trying to go. My location has been getting more consistent lately, and I’m thrilled because they’re trending towards the painful.

  17. I body 2 of those sammies every visit. No drink challenge. I once ordered my friend one medium one reaper didnt tell him LoL semi evil but hysterical

  18. It’s not that it’s too spicy but more that it just doesn’t taste good. More than being spicy, a dish should be tasty. Reaper is more bitter than savory IMO. Hot and Extra Hot do a much better job of balancing the spiciness with the deliciousness.

  19. So not Dave’s but I realized with hangry Joe’s. The chicken itself comes out so hot (like steam is coming out of the chicken when I cut into it) that it makes eating a spicy sandwich that much more difficult.

To actually enjoy the sandwich, I’ve taken off the bun, cut into it and just it steam off and cool down for a few minutes.

Makes the sandwich much more tolerable and easier to eat when your only dealing with the heat from the spice and not the from it being pulled immediately from the fryer and served.

This reminds me of Ramen Bowls in Lawrence, KS. Back when the Ghost Pepper craze went viral, they made a ghost pepper ramen and unless you said otherwise, the default was to serve the ghost sauce in a separate side ramekin so you could add however much you thought you could handle.

If you tell them you want the full experience, as designed by their chef, they mix all of the sauce into your bowl before serving it to you.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that too much spice detracts from the flavor of the dish, but hot diggity their broth was so on point my bowl was bone-dry by the time the check came.

  21. mathaiser

I ate the whole sandwich, and an extra tender to the side. It was pretty good.

  22. There has to be a lot of variation per franchise. I’ve never had anything, but reaper at the Mira Mesa, CA location. I always have to drink water to make it hotter.

  23. GenitalPatton

I’ve had it. It didn’t disappoint. It burnt twice. Probably won’t do again.

  24. HVACdadddy

The reaper slider isn’t even that hot cuz of all the bread and condiments. The reaper tenders pack a better punch with a strong after burn. I will say tho regardless how well I handle eating it I always have to hit the toilet all day the next day. Must be the concentrated dry rub😪

  25. Fuck_Your_Squirtle

After all of that, you went the next day and expected a different outcome. I love it

  26. micbytheocean

The reaper is just not tasty or enjoyable. I like their chicken
