Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.

Strong nose of black currants, black plums, black cherries, oak, light vanilla, licorice, chocolates, light alcohol, spices, peppercorn, and herbs.

Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate, with plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, chocolates, dark coffee, pencil lead, licorice, light dried figs, light tobacco, and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine-grained tannins, tangy raspberries, and light cola notes.

This Malbec-based blend from Oak Knoll District in Napa Valley is still young, but already soft and engaging.

Rich and “in-your-face” kind of wine. Elegant and fruit-forward. Feels like a high-end New World Malbec.

Already showing nice complexity, once it opens up. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years and see how it evolves.

Definitely needs 90 minutes in the decanter to open up and show its complexity.

Good by itself or with food.

A blend of 51% Malbec, 21% Petit Verdot, 12% Syrah, 12% Merlot and 4% Petite Sirah. Aged in (45% new) French oak barrels for 18 months.

    14.7% alcohol by volume.

    91 points.

    $44.

As an Argentine this is cool to see. Malbec-based blend with PV, Syrah, some Merlot all ripened up by intense solar radiation, some nice malo to give it chocolate notes and plenty of oak — I’ve had this many times.

Antigal in Mendoza actually makes a blend that’s close to exactly the same composition as this. But a ton of producers, especially in Luján de Cuyo, have blends like these. Luigi Bosca’s classic De Sangre blend for instance.
