The 32nd ‘Share Your Christmas Drive by Food Drive’ is happening Friday, Dec. 13, in Carson City, Minden, Fernley and Reno.
Partnering with TV station KTVN, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada food drive is from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The drive includes several area partner agencies, where food collected will be distributed to those agencies.
The agencies include Friends in Service Helping, (also known as FISH) Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Advocates to end Domestic Violence, Carson Valley Food, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, Living Faith Church, St. Roberts and Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Food drops and/or money donations will be at four locations: the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City, (606 Mountain Street) Carson Valley Inn (1627 US-395) in Minden, Raley’s in Fernley (1400 US Highway 95a N) and Grand Sierra Resort (2500 E 2nd Street) in Reno.
Donors will be able to drive through at any of the four locations and volunteers will remove non-perishable food donations from their vehicle and they will not even need to get out of the car, organizers said.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada also welcomes community partners Corwin Ford and Corwin Buick GMC who will be matching all monetary donations given to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada at GSR, two to one, on Friday, Dec. 13, up to $100,000. Matching gifts also include text-to-give, by texting SHARE to 50155.
Organizers are asking for the following most needed items:
— Entrees and protein like canned tuna, canned chicken, hearty soups and stews, chili, and peanut butter
— Canned vegetables with low sodium
— Canned fruit in its own juice
— Cereal, rice, pasta and beans
Please avoid donating items in glass containers.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada serves an average of 155,000 people every month, which is a record high number for the organization. Donations will be sorted at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and provided to families through a network of 150+ partner agencies throughout the 90,000 square mile service area.
