Would love to get my dad the griddle insert as an Xmas gift. He’s had this 4 burner genesis forever and loves it. The website says the inserts fit 2016 and newer… I feel like he’s had this grill since before then. Am I out of luck here?

I have one of these, can never find parts.

You are correct that the insert will not fit this model.

The Genesis griddle is meant for the newer grills which are about 1″ wider and 1/2″ shallower than the model you have. Theoretically you can shave about 1/2″ from the side of the griddle to make it fit and put it on top of the grates to prevent it from falling in. I think it will actually fit on the ledges, but it’s pretty precarious if you bump it.

The other thing you can do is to go to a metal shop and have them cut you some A36 steel. One benefit of this is that the OEM griddle has a big vent on the back that takes away like 1/4 of the theoretical cooking surface. I have one on my really old Genesis (the ones the size of Spirits) and the cooking surface is kinda small b/c of it. The downside is that it’s more prone to rust. I believe the OEM Weber one is treated with some anti-rust process.

If you do go the custom metal route I’d leave some gaps on the sides for venting some heat and to give you finger space to grab it.
