I’m allergic to tree nuts and my partner and I adore macaroons. They made these with sunflower seeds instead of almonds so we could both enjoy them. They’re the best ❤️
And they were super good. They’re not the prettiest so be gentle, it was their first go 🙂

Aw that was so dang sweet of them! And you gotta love a delicious bake even if it didn’t turn out looking how you wanted! I wish I had advice for next time but I’ve never made macarons myself — all I can say is each time that practice they’ll get better and better at it. 😀

Ever wonder why they’re always making macaroons on baking shows? Because they’re hard to make well.

Do those look great? NGL – no. No they don’t. But they DO look better than the ones people don’t even try to make. Keep up the good work.

My tip – you’ll get the bake and frosting down with practice, but color is just as important. Start easy and do colored cookies with white frosting. When you want too try two colors, go online and find a color wheel to find complementary colors that match. It might help you head off that orange/pink combination that you’re imagining.

Macarons are notoriously difficult and for a first try that doesn’t look bad! Especially since he had to use something different than regular ingredients. I love macarons and can taste the texture from the first picture.

Show them my first attempts, and they will feel much better! It took me five tries to get the bottom right result, lol. They did a great job for their first time!!

These are so tricky to make, especially with a substitution so I think it’s very impressive that they got such a nice ‘foot’ (the textured part around the base). The likely culprit here is a batter that was too thin because of over mixing. Have your partner research ‘macaronage’ to better understand the ideal consistency. They also make silicone baking mats with circles to make it easier to pipe if ever it’s something they really want to get into.

I didn’t start making macaroons until a couple of years ago because I was literally terrified. I saw so many people fail on baking shows. Tell them to keep trying!

I made those the exact same way my first time. Haven’t tried em again since. Lol

Aww, that’s so sweet of them! I’ve made macarons so many times (and failed plenty of times too 🥲), but I’ve never tried making them with sunflower seeds before—it sounds so interesting!

Props to them, because I know how HARD it is to make macarons! My only tip is to keep practicing. Practice makes perfect, and it’s all about learning the right temperature to bake them at, how long to whip your egg whites to stiff peaks, and so on. There are so many factors that come into play, and it varies for everyone. It’s not the easiest thing to make, but with practice, they’ll definitely get there! 😊

Just so you know, macaroons are a different cookie that you can also eat if you can have coconut. Macarons are what you attempted to make. I recommend watching Benjamin the Baker’s video on macarons to understand the correct amount of mixing. Keep at it, you’ll get there.

Macaroons are hard to make. Really good effort!

Yup looks like my first attempt too

It’s adorable. Looks like it’s sticking its little tongue out at me.

But we’re they delicious? Macaroons are very difficult your partner did better then I did my first time lol

For OP and everyone calling these macaroons — they’re macarons. Two O’s = the coconut mound dessert. These are two different desserts.

I was just gonna say ‘I bet they were fire!’. Try the special macaroni mat for a guide.

Those look a lot like my first like, five attempts. Still tasted fine but were all sorts of spread out and wonky. I found out I was over-mixing. Apparently (from what I’ve read) it’s safer to under-mix than over-mix. I guess mixing too much can cause them to spread? The whole making a figure 8 with the batter was kind of helpful, but when in doubt I under mix lol.

You sound like you’ve got an awesome partner, OP! I’m real curious what kind of process they did that used sunflower seeds. I’ve never heard of them being made that way before!

Looks like bubble gum in the middle
